Clarification:
This mission was not carried out against the city of Rome. The mission was flown against the Littorio railroad marshalling yards north of the city of Rome, Italy.
The mission briefings specifically warned against any risk of bombing the city of Rome and against any possibility of harm to the Vatican. Crewmen who didn't wish to participate in this mission on the basis of their religious feelings could be excused.
